Our Approach to Security
We take security very seriously. This encompasses everything
from providing our customers the highest grade system security
that is implemented within current browsers to a comprehensive
privacy statement governing how we store and use the information
that is provided to us.
What We Use
We
use RSA encryption within our web servers for full 128bit
encryption. Our site certificate, as well as all our programming
code that requires "signing", is verified by VeriSign,
Inc., the clear leader in providing secure authentication
services. These certificates enable us to prove our identity
and establish a secure communications channel to customers.
Security for Your Site
The
same security features that we use ourselves for electronic
commerce can also be enabled for your own website. Alternatively,
for those applications that we host for you, our own secure
certificate is utilized and you can rest assured that your
information will be protected.
Blocking Access to Content
We attempt to block "robots" through our robot
exclusion file. This eliminates other sites from indexing
our pages and retrieving the information provided to us. This
only applies to those systems (ie. WebCrawler) which abide
by the robot exclusion standard.
It is also possible with some services that we provide to
allow for our customers to block access to content. Typically
this is done with BASIC or DIGEST access control lists. We
are able to assist our customers in setting up these controls.
How We Store Critical Data
Where appropriate, passwords are stored in an encrypted form
within our databases. We may not have the ability to supply
you with your original password, but given certain authorization
information concerning your identity, we may be able to reset
your password to a new one that you should specify. With secure
ordering, this process is done. For general moderated or unmoderated
discussion groups, this level of encryption is not done.
